How to get here?

On street 142, take the El Castillo dirt road for 1.5 km; La Fortuna, San Carlos, Costa Rica.

We really enjoyed this hike. It takes you through a variety of types of terrain. The lava flow was particularly stunning with orchids growing out of the rock openings. Though out most of the hike you will hear monkey and bird calls and, if you are quick, you can catch a glimpse of these wonderful creatures. It was a moderate hike and we did it without a guide, though I am sure you would spot more wildlife with a guide. Highly recommended.

This hike was amazing! We saw monkeys and tons of gorgeous lava rocks. The hike is a bit strenuous so wear good shoes and bring water and bug spray! The best hike in Arenal for sure.
